I wasn't familiar with this fairy tale, but I really liked this telling of it. Several reasons: 1. Totally arresting and unique illustrations, that pull away from the fluff that dominates many children's books today 2. Will satisfy the kids who need "princess books," but isn't total junk like many princess books are 3.

Doesn't shy away from the darkness that was a big part of fairy tales to /5(22). If you'd like to read a retelling of this tale that actually makes sense, check out the beautiful and wonderful book, Snow White and Rose Red by Patricia C.
